Girls Inc. of York Region Announces 5th Annual Girls Awards
(Newmarket, ON) – Girls Incorporated of York Region today announced open nominations for the organizations 5th Annual Girls Awards.
Nominations for the awards, which honour and recognize outstanding young women in the community, are open to all girls in York Region and beyond.
“We are thrilled to announce open nominations for our 5th Annual Girls Awards,” says Lyn Thompson-Alcock, executive director of Girls Incorporated of York Region. “The awards give us an opportunity to recognize the outstanding achievements of young women who display exemplary courage, spirit and leadership in their communities, schools and relationships.”
The 5th Annual Girls Inc. award nominations are open until June 15, 2015, and recognize young women in a number of categories:
The Michelle Lablond Leadership Award: Honours a girl who displays exemplary leadership skills.
The Mary Beatson Sportsmanship Award: Honours a girl who demonstrates courage, fair play and graciousness.
The Sharon Lusthaus Community Spirit Award: Honours a girl who demonstrates community spirit associated with gestures of good will.
The Lara Ryan Volunteer Award: Honours a girl who volunteers to improve the quality of life in her community, school and relationships.
The Sylvia Fisch Award of Valour: Honours a girl who displays courage, spirit and thoughtfulness.
The Robin Holloway Award of Excellence: Honours and recognizes a girl who demonstrates academic excellence and achievement.
With you in their corner, girls will fight for the bright future they deserve. By celebrating and recognizing the strengths and community spirit of young women in York Region and beyond, we can all inspire them to stand on their own two feet and be strong, smart and bold.
